What We Do:
Equipped is a registered 501c3 in Pittsburgh dedicated to helping empower survivors of violence by assisting them in rebuilding their lives, and becoming independent.
We formed in 2011 with the hope of supporting survivors of violence in becoming equipped to deal with life on their own terms, in their own time, and with an independent, healthy outlook toward their future.
Our ongoing outreach includes: assisting survivors in determining eligibly and applying for various legal, medical, educational, and housing services; providing temporary, emergency assistance for food insecurity and transportation costs; locating and delivering household and personal care items that many survivors must leave behind and cannot immediately afford to replace.
Our larger mission includes our "Get Equipped!" monthly workshop series, designed to address areas of self-reliance, education, financial planning. Our workshop designs and materials have been selected based on research regarding the most effective and necessary follow-up services for women who have left a violent situation and already received initial crisis services (*).
We aim to consistently combine prevention, assistance, support, and education for those who have experienced any form of intimate partner violence in their lives. Our primary objective is to reduce the rate of return to abusers, and empower survivors to continue taking positive, bold steps toward a violence free, independent life!
